Viet Nam ranked 75th among 141 nations in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI). In comparison with the rankings in 2013, Viet Nam jumped five steps. Earlier, in 2009 and 2011 the country secured the 89th and 80th places. Regarding prices, the country's tourism stood at 22ndamong 141 nations. Meanwhile, in term of sustainable development, it was ranked 132nd. The TTCI is measured by four different index groups of Legislative Factor, Infrastructure and Human Resources, Culture and Natural Resources. Tourism contributes significantly to Vietnamâs economy
Hanoi (VNA) â Tourism is a remarkable contributor to Vietnamâs economic growth. The sector has drawn about 10 billion USD in foreign direct investment (FDI) and nearly 300 trillion VND (13.5 billion USD) in domestic investment. More than 6.1 trillion VND (274.5 million USD) has been sourced from the State budget since 2006 to develop tourism infrastructure. Popular destinations in Vietnam include Ha Long Bay in northern Quang Ninh province, Phu Quoc island in southern Kien Giang province, and Nha Trang in the central coastal province of Khanh Hoa . The country is home to more than 1,500 international travel companies. As of May this year, Vietnam had 101 five-star hotels, 299 four-star and 463 three-star hotels. Vietnam has provided visa exemptions for tourists from 22 countries and territories. Between 2010 and 2015, the tourism sector recorded average growth of 9.5 percent. Poor hygiene makes Vietnam less attractive tourism destination: survey
Low quality, hygiene and sanitation are the biggest turn-offs for travelers in Vietnam, according to a recent survey conducted by the Hanoi-based Institute of Tourism Development Research. The survey polled 1,470 tourists, including locals and foreigners, to gauge the factors that influence the country’s tourism competitiveness. The survey showed that travelers are most likely to be turned off by tourism destinations and accommodation where hygiene and sanitation facilities are inadequate and of poor quality, said Nguyen Anh Tuan, the director of the research institute. Nguyen Thanh Binh, a senior official at the national administration of tourism, admitted that sanitation and hygiene are an important factor for many tourists when it comes to choosing their destination. Filthy toilets and robberies: Deputy PM names tourism nightmares in Vietnam
Official statistics indicate that 70 percent of foreign holidaymakers would not return to Vietnam and are gripped by seven bugbears, Deputy Prime Minister Vuong Dinh Hue said Tuesday at a national tourism conference. Hue blamed robberies, thieves, unsafe roads, traffic congestion, service quality, filthy toilets and environmental pollution for holding back the tourism sector. “Vietnam’s tourism sector is highly likely to lag far behind its rivals,” Hue told the conference in Hoi An, a popular tourist attraction in central Vietnam. These tourism issues are by no means new to tourists, both foreign and local.
