A growing number of youngsters aspire to be social media influencers for fame and fortune. But experts warn about a narcissitic trend that can be devastating for youths. Wang Yuke reports from Hong Kong. If Hong Kong's big-time fortune tellers can strike gold by amassing a huge following over time, there's a group of young go-getters trying to take a leaf out of their book — social media influencers. But the luck and instinct that may guarantee one's success in any field of endeavor simply don't fall from the sky. It could be a make-it-or-break-it move. Kenson, 10, is nothing short of a toy influencer in Hong Kong despite his tender age. "I often come across strangers recognizing me on the street. While many young YouTubers wallow in stardom and the glee of being lionized, being a household name is not on Kenson's priority list. … [Read more...] about Wallowing in stardom or a minefield?

A dedicated group of chess enthusiasts are trying to popularize the game in Hong Kong. Neil Li reports on the city's small but steadily growing community of chess players. HONG KONG - Improving the electoral system in Hong Kong is a critical and urgent task to provide institutional safeguards for "patriots governing Hong Kong," the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) said Friday. The remarks came after the National People's Congress, the nation's top legislature, started to deliberate a draft decision on improving Hong Kong's electoral system at its opening meeting of its annual session this year on Friday. It is universally recognized in any country that both central and local jurisdiction must be in the hands of patriots so that national sovereignty, security and development interests will not be threatened, a spokesperson for the liaison office said in a statement. But if we look at it in absolute quantum, in thousands of dollars, the increase is only a few thousands of dollars. And I think if the person is able to spend a few million dollars on a high-end … [Read more...] about Progressive property tax rates unlikely to dampen investor sentiment: analysts
