SINGAPORE - Organisations must assume they are already under cyber attack by equipping themselves with online security measures that can identify and mitigate breaches, instead of just setting up cyber defences and anticipating attacks. This point was stressed by Mr Richard Magnus, chairman of the Committee of Inquiry (COI) probing the June cyber attack on public healthcare cluster SingHealth , which is Singapore's worst-ever data breach. "Organisations must adopt an 'assume breach' mindset. They must not only adopt a proactive defence strategy, but must also arm themselves with security systems and solutions which enable them to detect and respond to cyber threats early," said Mr Magnus. These, he added, must be complemented with the right people and processes. Mr Magnus, a retired senior judge, was giving his closing remarks on Friday (Nov 30) before adjourning the COI, which has heard from 37 witnesses over 20 days of hearings. During the breach in June , hackers stole … [Read more...] about Organisations must prepare for cyber breaches, as if already under attack: SingHealth COI chair

Men and Women Marking Their Territory
Personal space acts as protection, a safety device, and a status marker. It was said of President John Kennedy that when he walked into a room, it was like parting the waters—the higher the status, the larger the space. Dominant animals maintain a larger buffer zone of personal space; they are not approached as closely as submissive animals. Prison inmates have been found to have huge personal space behind them and a smaller area in front of them because they prefer to see who is coming up to them. It’s also possible that they’re afraid of being stabbed in the back. When people stand too close, their faces become visually distorted. Perhaps this is one reason why lovers close their eyes when they kiss. Have you ever noticed how people instinctively flip their heads back (almost leaning backward) when someone comes up directly into their face? You can’t get a fix on a person’s face if he or she is right up against you. You can't see it. Personal space may vary in size for an … [Read more...] about Men and Women Marking Their Territory

‘Careless, totally unnecessary,’ Lacson says of Parlade’s remarks vs reporter
MANILA, Philippines — Southern Luzon Command chief Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr.’s remarks against INQUIRER.net reporter Tetch Torres-Tupas were “careless” and “totally unnecessary” and does not help the government convince the Supreme Court to rule in favor of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, one of the law’s proponents said. “Coming at a time when the [Solicitor General] is defending the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 against 37 petitions, particularly on the issue involving ‘overbreadth doctrine’ among others, such remarks from a high ranking military official is uncalled for and totally unnecessary,” Senator Panfilo Lacson, who also chairs the Senate national defense committee, told INQUIRER.net on Thursday. Lacson pointed out that there are basic freedoms that remain to be protected and upheld under the anti-terror law, particularly the freedom of speech or expression. “Accusing a journalist of ‘aiding the terrorists by spreading lies,’ assuming that such comment was accurately … [Read more...] about ‘Careless, totally unnecessary,’ Lacson says of Parlade’s remarks vs reporter
