“The unbelievable deliciousness of Chef Tariq’s cooking had the ability to magic away reality.” That is what critics have been saying about Chef Tariq Helou and his pop-up restaurant Division Supper Club. Helou is half-Lebanese, one quarter Japanese, and one quarter Chinese. But most importantly, he is 100 per cent Singaporean. For eight months in 2019, this accomplished chef, who is still in his mid-twenties, ran one of the most exciting (and always sold out) private dining experiences in town. Division Supper Club, started with business partner Aidan Wee, popped up in restaurants all over Singapore, serving Helou’s unique East-West cuisine, which draws as much upon his own mixed heritage as it does his training in Europe and Japan. Helou and Wee have plans to open their first restaurant this year. The latest post on the Division Supper Club Instagram page teases us with a set of keys. Turns out, the pair have taken over a space on Rangoon Road, formerly the home of dessert … [Read more...] about Creative Capital: The multi-racial Singapore chef taking the private dining world by storm

Eating out during Phase 2? Health experts’ tips on how to stay extra careful
I can't wait to go to the hawker centre, order teh peng and mee pok, and actually sit down to slurp up those vinegary noodles and sip my drink. That's because wiping the shelves and the TV console with a cloth dampened with just water isn't enough to kill the coronavirus. In fact, it can survive “on average about three days in our local climate” on glass, metal and ceramic surfaces, said Dr Jyoti Somani, a senior consultant with the Division of Infectious Diseases at National University Hospital. Need another reason to pick up a cleaning cloth? A dusty window wouldn't hurt you but a dirty door knob could make you very sick. If you're ready to wage chemical warfare on germs, here’s how to do it right. READ THE LABEL ON THE DISINFECTANT Not all cleaning agents effectively kill bacteria, viruses and fungi – but you want that tri-fold action. Home Tour: A chic Monaco apartment where 70s glamour meets tropical flair
American photographer George “Slim” Aarons once quipped that he made a career out of “photographing attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places”. His now iconic shots captured, on film, the jet-set crowd holidaying in picturesque locales including Alpine resorts, tropical islands and the sun-soaked areas of Monaco, Palm Beach and the Amalfi Coast. This merry-making mood sets the scene for this apartment in Monaco, located in the seaside area of Larvotto. The decision to purchase and combine the two adjacent apartments in this desirable locale resulted in an unusually large space – an ideal setting for a dream home that embodies the Riviera lifestyle. The work of Monaco-based practice Humbert & Poyet, the 4,090 sq ft (380 sqm) apartment draws inspiration from the life of leisure depicted in Aarons’ work by pairing tropical accents with contemporary pieces and mid-century modern furniture. Christophe Poyet and Emil Humbert first started their eponymous … [Read more...] about Home Tour: A chic Monaco apartment where 70s glamour meets tropical flair
