(VEN) - The Standard Chartered Bank (Vietnam) Limited together with the Fred Hollows Foundation (FHF) and the Hanoi Eye Hospital celebrated the World Sight Day on October 11 at the Hanoi Eye Hospital in Hanoi. On the occasion, the organizers announced a new project on eye care in the fifth phase under the theme, "Developing comprehensive eye care model". The event was part of the Standard Chartered Bank's global campaign entitled, "Seeing is Believing (SiB)". The fourth phase of the project entitled, "Preventing Blindness among Vietnamese Urban Children", took place in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City from 2010-2012. During this time, 766,254 students in these cities received eye examination; poor students were given 14,695 pairs of glasses for free; and 258 poor children underwent free eye operations at the Hanoi Eye Hospital. Urbanization in the eyes of young photographers
The Asia-Europe Forum for Young Photographers - 2004, co-organised in Hanoi by the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture and Information, Vietnam Pictorial, the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) and the World Press Photo, is one of the first activities welcoming the 5th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM-5) to be held in Hanoi this October. "Urbanization" was selected as the theme of this year's forum. "Urbanization has now become a global issue and also a matter of concern to Hanoi. In the conception of all people, Hanoi is an ancient capital. However, it is changing with every passing day with Internet cafe's, high-rise buildings, new urban areas and modern lifestyles. Through works of photographers we would like to give people a new view for Hanoi," said Marie Le Sourd, Manager of the cultural exchange project of the Asia-Europe Foundation. Five winners of the photo contest "HCMC in the 21st Century - A Green and Sustainable City" were decided at the final round last Saturday at Siemens Vietnam Day at the White Palace Convention Center, 194 Hoang Van Thu Street, in HCMC's Phu Nhuan District. As a part of the German Year in HCMC, this photo contest was arranged by Siemens Vietnam to raise awareness among young people about sustainable development of HCMC and encourage them to speak about their feelings for the city through photos.
