Internet connections in Vietnam are expected to run at snail’s space in the coming week as a major undersea cable will go under repair. A local internet service provider said the Asia America Gateway (AAG) is being fixed and work will reach the part connected to Vietnam' southern beach town Vung Tau on Sunday. It is scheduled to finish on June 5. The incident would affect all service providers in Vietnam, meaning that internet users will have to face the sluggish speed on international websites. Several internet service providers are ready to reroute and transfer signals to other cables to minimize the impacts on users. This is the second time the AAG encountered a technical problem this year, following a reset last January, and at least five similar incidents in 2017. Connected in November 2009, the $560-million AAG handles more than 60 percent of the country’s international internet traffic. The system runs more than 20,000 kilometers (12,420 miles), connecting Southeast … [Read more...] about Vietnam’s internet to crawl as repair work starts on infamous cable
AAG maintenance slows Internet again Van Ly HANOI - Local Internet providers have said access to international services, including Youtube and Facebook, is choppy as the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) undersea fiber optic cable line is suspended for scheduled maintenance. The ongoing maintenance, however, does not affect Internet services provided by local companies. The maintenance takes place more than one month after the line broke in Hong Kong early August due to Typhoon Nida, and it took many days for the operator of the line to have it fixed. The system was suspended from June 22 to 26 for maintenance. The AAG was put into use in 2009 but it has been out of service for many times for either scheduled maintenance or ruptures. With a capacity of two terabit per second, the 20,000-kilometer AAG cable system connects Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei, Hong Kong, and the Philippines in Asia and Guam, Hawaii and California of the U.S. The system affects up to 90% of … [Read more...] about AAG maintenance slows Internet again – AAG maintenance slows Internet again
Vietnamese internet users may see disruptions or slowdowns to their international connectionsduring the week of scheduled maintenance to the Asia-America Gateway (AAG) cable system. AAG is a 20,000 kilometre submarine communications cable system connecting South-East Asia with the US mainland across the Pacific via Guam and Hawaii. It connects with Vietnam through Vung Tau City and has been in operation since November 2009. According to Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT), the repair work will be carried out from February 25 to March 3. During this time, the international connection speeds will be down, making it difficult to access to foreign websites and send emails to addresses on foreign servers. The deputy director of VNPT’s Vietnam Data Communication Company (VDC), Nguyen Hong Hai, said the repair should have been conducted earlier, but has been delayed to next week. He added that VNPT has prepared measures to help maintain connectivity during the … [Read more...] about Cable repair to temporarily slow down international internet connections
