Photo: Alexi Rosenfeld/Getty Images A new poll released Monday shows former presidential candidate Andrew Yang continuing to lead his fellow mayoral candidates as the top choice in the city’s first ranked-choice mayor’s race. Yang was the first choice of 22 percent of likely Democratic voters surveyed in a Spectrum News NY1/Ipsos poll , followed by Brooklyn borough president Eric Adams at 13 percent, city comptroller Scott Stringer with 11 percent and Maya Wiley, former counsel to Mayor de Blasio, with 7 percent. Ray McGuire and Shaun Donovan both received 6 percent in the poll, leaving Dianne Morales with 5 percent and Kathyrn Garcia with 4 percent. UN Experts Slam UK Report on Race, Ethnic Disparities for Downplaying Institutional Racism
The UK commission published its report in late March, surveying the situation with racial and ethnic disparities in the country and making various recommendations on how to better handle it. "The UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent categorically rejects and condemns the analysis and findings of the recently published report by the UK’s Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities, which, among other conclusions, claim that 'geography, family influence, socio-economic background, culture and religion have more significant impact on life chances than the existence of racism", the working group of the UN human rights office said in a statement. The group also accused the commission of sanitising the history of the African slave trade and took issue with the report's handling of data. "The Report cites dubious evidence to make claims that rationalize white supremacy by using the familiar arguments that have always justified racial hierarchy. Race report commissioned by government an attempt to ‘normalise white supremacy’, UN human rights experts claim
Human rights experts from the United Nations have alleged that a government-commissioned race report tried to "normalise white supremacy". The UN Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent said it "categorically rejects and condemns" the findings of the Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities. The report, which was published last month , said racism remained a "real force" but Britain was no longer a country where the "system is deliberately rigged against ethnic minorities". And its report criticised the way the term has been used, saying it should not be applied as a "catch-all" phrase for any microaggression. Grand Prix race results: Verstappen wins wild Imola F1 race
Verstappen won by over 20 seconds ahead of a recovering Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), who bounced back from a costly off-track moment from which he had to reverse out of the gravel. His race was saved by a red flag, and he was able to surge back to second place after the restart. Verstappen made a terrific start to vault from third on the grid to the lead by the first corner, where he touched Hamilton, who was forced wide and damaged his front wing. Just after a pitstop sequence to switch to dry tyres, Hamilton went off at Tosa while lapping the Williams of George Russell. A lap later, Russell touched wheels with the second Mercedes Valtteri Bottas on the approach to Tamburello, and the race was stopped to clear all the debris from the massive crash that followed.
