WASHINGTON: The United States on Monday (Apr 6) branded a Russian far-right group as a foreign terrorist organisation, the first time it has targeted white supremacists with tools regularly used against Islamist extremists. The State Department said that the Russian Imperial Movement runs paramilitary training camps in St Petersburg and has drawn neo-Nazis from across the Western world. "This is the first time the United States has ever designated white supremacist terrorists, illustrating how seriously this administration takes the threat," said Nathan Sales, the State Department counter-terrorism coordinator. The measure comes after the State Department in its latest annual terrorism report last November said ethnically and racially driven terrorism had risen alarmingly in 2018 both worldwide and in the United States. US-Saudi oil alliance idea born at White House, put on back burner for now
WASHINGTON: Top U.S. officials have for now put aside a proposal for an alliance with Saudi Arabia to manage the global oil market, according to three sources with knowledge of the matter, an idea one of them said came from White House national security advisers. That the concept was even considered at high levels reflects both the depth of the crisis facing the global oil industry as well as its growing importance to the U.S. economy. A few weeks ago, proposals for Washington to work together with oil producers to curb supply to the global market would have been dismissed for violating U.S. antitrust laws. But prices for oil have slumped to an 18-year low because of the twin hits of the coronavirus pandemic slashing energy demand and a price war between top producers Saudi Arabia and Russia, threatening higher-cost U.S. and global drillers with bankruptcy. The idea of a U.S.-Saudi alternative to the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, of which Saudi Arabia is … [Read more...] about US-Saudi oil alliance idea born at White House, put on back burner for now

"We need to re-build a winning culture at Loftus," White said in a media statement from the Bulls. "There's a great history and heritage here, and I'm looking forward to adding my contribution to the Bulls' legacy." White led the Springboks to the 2007 Rugby World Cup title, and was most recently with Toyota Verblitz in Japan. US coronavirus stimulus to be worth ‘north of US$2 trillion’: White House aide
WASHINGTON: The White House expects the impact of economic stimulus to counter the effects of coronavirus to be more than US$2 trillion, including around US$1.4 trillion from a prospective US Senate bill, aides said on Saturday (Mar 21). White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters he expects the coronavirus stimulus package being negotiated by the Senate this weekend would be worth about US$1.3 trillion or US$1.4 trillion. Eric Ueland, the White House legislative liaison, told reporters the net impact of the legislation and US Federal Reserve action would be "well north of US$2 trillion." “The net impact, in combination with the amount that you’ll see pass in the next couple of days, I hope, plus what the Federal Reserve can put in on the table, in combination with what we’re doing, will be well north of US$2 trillion," Ueland said. US Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer on Saturday said lawmakers were "making very good progress" on the Senate package.
